We really like 650B wheeled mountain bikes here at Eddie's! In fact, our entire staff is currently riding 650B mountain bikes, which is a fantastic endorsement for the emerging "tweener" wheel size. The 650B mountain bikes have indeed proven themselves to us to be more agile and more nimble than their 29er counterparts, especially in dirt single-track and pump track-style trails. Conversely, 650B wheels have a lot of "big wheel" advantages over 26" wheels; better traction, better roll-over, and more tire volume with a larger traction footprint. This custom spec'd Jamis Dragon 650B Trail bike is nearly a mirror image of the same bike I have been riding for 9 months now; so, I know it works! I have tested this bike at Rothrock, Allegrippis, Scotia, even Ray's Indoor MTB Park in Cleveland, and it has exceeded my expectations in every type of terrain and trail. It can handle the rockiest terrain easily, but it really excels in the dirt singletrack. The 27.5" wheels eat up roots and rocks exceptionally well, while maintaining traction on sharp turns, and proving its agility advantage in tight switchbacks. It also lofts off of jumps much nicer than a 29er...especially in the pump track stuff.
Highlights on the Dragon 650B include: a hand built wheelset, SRAM X9 6-bolt disc hubs, 9/10sp rear, 15QR front, laced with Wheelsmith double butted spokes and brass nipples to Velocity Blunt SL rims, 32H. 1x10spd drivetrain, SRAM X9 Type II rear mech. and a Reynolds 853 air-hardened, heat-treated steel frame.
